Period 3
Black people started, eventually, to gain their freedoms throughout the reconstruction amendments (13th, 14th, and 15th) . Such as education and speech. Even though, it was not a complete freedom. There was a segregation in schools, hotels, and even hospitals.
The National Association for Advancement of Colored People was founded on February 12, 1909. Essentially, it was created to protect black rights. With more than a century, trying to ensure the politician, educational, social, and economic equity of all persons, it managed to decrease discrimination based on race. Their first big win was overturning the disenfranchisement of blacks, that was created by the Jim Crow Statutes and racial segregation.
The NAACP was aggressively fought by the southern whites. They tried to limit the black votes by disenfranchisement, and making voting exams. The Republican party, as well as the Democratic Party supported the dispose of segregation.
